Tutoring
(also known as "Love in Action")

Trinity's tutoring ministry is in its 5th year. A group of RUF students from Brown University and The Rhode Island School of Design started the ministry with a desire to minister to the Liberian members of Trinity. Over the years we have come to mentor not only Trinity's students, but a large number of students from the Liberian community at large. The tutoring sessions are every Saturday, 10:00AM to 12:30PM. Tutoring and mentoring are available to all students, Pre-K to 12th Grade. The goal of the ministry is to "instill the love of learning in students" to the glory of God.

Subjects covered include (but are not limited to) reading, math, and writing. We take our students on numerous field trips to higher educational facilities such as the Brown University library and science facilities, and the Rhode Island School of Design library and computer labs. By these activities/trips, we hope to inspire the students to reach for higher education in their future.

Many of our students experienced interruptions to their schooling due the civil war in Liberia (some were away from school for 4-7 years). Most of these children were totally unprepared for the classes they were enrolled in here in the US. Our focus has been to help such students make up the lost time in order for them to be successful in school.

Also, some of the children we mentor come from homes where the parents are not educated. These children do not have any home assistance for their schoolwork. Even though we are unable to give them assistance during the week, we try to assist them as much as possible on Saturdays.

If you are interested in participating in this ministry, please contact Rev. Eddie Park or Deacon Nathaniel Koliyah.
